Can Work Make You Ill

It’s said that many people take time off work because work makes them ill.

Could this be true?

The answer is yes. Work can make you ill.

So, why does work make you ill? Below is a list of the most common complaints recorded over recent years.

  1. Stress
  2. Depression
  3. Over worked
  4. Generally unhappy
  5. Pressure
  6. Don’t get on with other people there
  7. Face just does not fit
  8. Feel incapable due to lack of training
  9. The food and drink supplied
  10. Unclean environment
  11. Incorrect PPE
  12. Incorrect training
  13. General atmosphere is not good

So, we can see some reasons given for time off work. Although these are not injuries as such, they are the result of being absent from work and in some cases they can be for long periods of time and sometimes leaving the job completely.

Stress is a massive complaint to doctors about needing time off work. Like a balloon, stress builds to a point where if it is not allowed to escape, it will go beyond its capacity and explode.

This can lead to depression just as depression can lead to stress. The two are good friends with each other but never with you. Depression is the 20th century illness. Being a very common compliant. It can lead to time off work and in some case can be fatal due to people committing suicide.

Having to much work put on you at work can cause the above symptoms. Work over load with out help will most certainly take its toll. This will make you feel under pressure and result in you feeling generally unhappy in the work place.

You wont get on with other people because you are not meeting dead lines and you may feel that you are being victimised because you don’t feel capable of doing the job or that your face just does not fit.

The other perpetrator to look out for at work is the food and drink you consume. You are at risk of food poisoning which will result in time off work. In fact, the entire environment could be unclean. This can cause all sorts of infections to staff because the cleaner didn’t clean properly.

The other reason for accidents or time off work is because the correct training and clothing is not provided to staff.

Feeling ill or depressed while at work can cause accidents. The person suffering the effects could forget to do something vital like turn off a machine or replace a guard that could result in an injury. Even the air conditioning in the building could get a build up of degree and in its self, spread disease, dust and small parasites around the building.

Truth is, there are a thousand and one reasons for accidents and time taken off work all over the world every day, all we can do is follow the legal rules that era set to protect us while we are at work.
