Dangerous Jobs - The Medical Profession
Can you imagine what the hospitals are like late night at weekends? Quite horrific from time to time Ii would think.
The A n E departments have more than just injuries to deal with, they have drunken, abusive patients to deal with who expect to be given drugs and a magic wand to make them feel better and when they don’t get the miracle they seem to expect, they can become abusive and physical violent towards those who are wanting to help.
Ambulance drivers and mobile care assistants have been attacked for drugs they might be carrying with them while at work. Its not that this happens to everyone in the medical profession on a daily basis but it does happen every day throughout the world.
If people are not looking to score some cheap drugs then the problem lies with alcohol and its affects upon its users. Again, not everyone who goes out for a drink become hurt, in hospital waiting rooms and then violent but there are the small numbers of people who do end up like this and they cost the NSH billions of pounds a year, it’s because of these people that you will see signs on display in doctors surgeries and hospitals asking patients to be nice to the staff.
Other places will be nursing homes and hospitals for the mentally ill. All these places all pose a threat to the staff that are working there. So the problem lies with people that have addictions and illnesses that control them to the point of being violent to get what they want.
What about your own doctor? He spends all day seeing people face to face with this cold and that flu and maybe even more variations of the common cold let alone the other contagious complaints made every day and this all happens in a small enclosed place.
Doctors are always at risk of taking home their patients complaints but at least they are less likely to be beaten up for a quick drug fix.
We live a world full of people that can be unpredictable and violent towards those who want to help them, how we deal with this is what really counts.
The need for security is common place now in hospitals and such places. To avoid this we should make sure that we don’t need the local A n E department on a weekend and don’t take a job that requires you to deal with this on a daily basis. Of course for some people this is not an option but with the correct training and the help of security staff we will all be a little safer so there’s hope yet for our brilliant staff who deal drug addicted and alcohol fused public as part of their job role.
