Injury Caused Whilst Having Fun
What’s the first thing that springs to mind?
- Drinking?
- Playing sports?
- Sex maybe?
As strange as it may seem many people are injured every year while having or due to sex.
Ann Summers did a survey that revealed 1 third of the people asked reported injuries during sex. These were the expected bumps, carpet burns and pulled muscles but in the A&E departments all over the world the stories become more gruesome.
There have been broken penises, lost and found items and love affairs with tractors. One man died because his relationship with his tractor went wrong and the worst part is, the injuries are often worse than they needed to be due to the injured party not wanting to advertise the reasons for how they became injured, this will of course leave a wound open to infection and a lost item harder to retrieve.
All of the above doesn’t apply to just men or just women; it applies to both on a fairly equal score. Even safe sex caused a young lady to have a persistent cough for 6 months. On closer examination the hospital staff found an inhaled condom, this happened during fellatio.
Playing sports is an obvious way to get hurt. In sport you can be doing anything from jumping to running to hitting to swimming and so on. With the correct training and safety equipment the risks are lower but there is always a risk of broken bones, sprains and strains, bruises etc. a heart attack is something else to consider. You might think that a sports person isn’t at risk but in fact, despite the joke type scenario of the husband having a heart attack during sex, it’s more likely to be the sports person whose heart gives in.
We mustn’t forget about the drinker in us either. We all have had or will have one drink over our life time but for the massive majority of us, we have had more than one or even two.
It is possible to drink responsibly but when our brain becomes over run with that, what seems to be at the time, lovely alcohol, we tend to lose control of our selves. The common accidents due to drinking are the falls; trips and being sick or hung over but there is a more serious side.
While we think we are just a bit drunk and we will be fine tomorrow we are in fact slowly killing ourselves. When we wake up with headache the next day it’s because we are so dehydrated that our brain had dried up like a sponge and shrunk. It’s the tendons that hold the brain in place that are being stretched by the shrunken, dried up brain that is causing the pain.
The being sick is something our bodies can handle but, if this is an on going regular thing, the muscle that control being sick can become over stressed and end up torn and permanently damaged. The throat will also suffer because of the stomach acid that is continuously burning the delicate skin of the throat and mouth.
And it doesn’t stop there. The liver may seem fine for the longest time but with the regular drinker, the liver may be under too much stress to continue working as it should. You can have liver disease for ten years before you even know about it.
The body woks do hard to help its self when we are abusing it but it can only take so much. People die every day due to liver failure which was brought on by drinking.
Below are a couple of facts to leave you thinking about.
- Out of all the people admitted to hospital 8,500 were under 18s
- In total 207,800 people were admitted to wards because of drinking.
- they were either drunk, they had liver cirrhosis or a secondary disorder such as heart disease brought on by heavy drinking.
- They were also have been injured or assaulted while drunk.
