The Chances Of Getting Injured At Home
The chances of getting injured at home are really quite high. You might think that you spend more time at work than at home and even then you go to other places so how could being hurt at home be more common?
You are more relaxed at home, you do things at home you don’t do anywhere else and you take your home for granted because you are familiar with it and feel safe there. Truth is it’s full of surprises.
The first thing to note is that you are never alone in your home. Much like at work, you are surrounded by creepy crawlies. It might be a spider that scares you half to death so you stand on a chair in a panic and ultimately fall off, or perhaps something smaller like a germ or some bacteria causing you to become ill.
You do things like decorating which involves standing on ladders that you have no health and safety regulations for and then you go and stand in the shower with the soap by your feet and you brush your teeth while cleaning the sink at the same time.
We don’t do these things at work because of the restrictions put on us by the company and its health and safety regulations. You cook at home leaving you open to burns, cuts, bruises and in some cases, fires that start in the kitchen or you might even fall asleep with a cigarette in one hand and a hot cuppa in the other.
Truth is, the home is a dangerous place but it’s because of our belief that it’s the safest place to be that makes it so death-defying and treacherous. How we manage to live is beyond me, but could it be the familiar setting that’s also keeps us from serious danger?
Being at home can lead us into trouble as mentioned before but we also have no worries about things when they do go wrong. Ok, we don’t want to pull the shower curtain down as we slip on the soap while in the shower but, unlike at work, the damage will be to our own things, the price to pay will be up to us and when we are ready and we won’t be as embarrassed at home as we would be at work.
Not that you will be in the shower at work but there are some jobs that allow for this. The point is, if you fall at work you may try to hide your shame therefore not saving your self with the same passion and you might even avoid grabbing the bosses best table for example because you know you cant afford to replace it or annoy him to that level.
We do things at home that we only do at home and this leaves us open to injury but at home we are less afraid so that leaves feeling more relaxed so the injury is therefore avoided.
It’s a strange game of finding the balance but I suspect that if you are careful and don’t take unnecessary risks either at work or at home, you should be just fine.
Enjoy your day.
