The Dangers Of Being Under The Influence
Alcohol, drugs, even prescription drugs and some over the counter drugs may give the impression that someone is intoxicated so to go to work like this can be very detrimental to you, your co-workers and your job could be at risk too.
To come into work with the aroma of alcohol on your breath isn’t a good idea, it’s a condition of work that you are not intoxicated to any level while in work and to be so could get you an instant dismissal.
Drugs are also a definite no in the work place but they can be more difficult to spot. With alcohol your breath will at least give you away but drugs won’t leave any smell so as long as you are not completely on another planet, you may be able to hide it.
When you’re ill, going to the doctor is usually the next step so that you can get some medication and get better. This can sometimes interfere with your work though because the medication will sometimes say you can’t use machinery or drive while on the medication.
The problem with alcohol, drugs, and prescribed medication is that they inhibit your ability to make judgment or operate machinery correctly. It’s now illegal to drink while at work and as drugs are illegal anyway, taking them while at work will also get you an instant dismissal.
Can you imagine going to the hair dressers and having you hair cut by someone who is pretty drunk, “how do you like your ears, clean or missing?” even being hung over will have an effect, your body is still intoxicated with alcohol and it’s trying to get rid of the toxins that have flushed through your system.
This makes the body sluggish and slow to react, it become un-coordinated and it’s difficult to do the everyday things with precise movements you usually would.
Drugs, be them prescription or illegal will have the same effect on you body. To turn up at work either under the influence or in the early recovery of the night before will almost defiantly get you a verbal or written warning and in many cases, you will lose your job.
You won’t get a reference to take to your next job interview and so your work life could be very disrupted and made very difficult, and all for a good night?
If you’re going to drink, drink responsibly and it’s always best to stay away from drugs. As for prescribed medicine, always follow your Doctors advice and if you not sure, ask your Doctor and always let your employer know the situation.
